Artist Bio

Alissa Millsap is inspired by the days of old. The hard but simple life of those who came before her. She finds peace in creating the utilitarian items that can also still be beautiful. One would most often find her exploring the back country roads or in her studio creating. She lives on the prairies of Nebraska with her farmer husband and their dog, Harley.

Artist Statement

Most often, I feel like I was born in the wrong century. I love watching movies and reading about the pioneers that settled this land. While I don’t romanticize their lifestyle, it does hold a certain appeal. And since I trust God, I know He didn’t make a mistake of my birth year. So with that knowledge, I attempt to make choices based on how I want my life to be. Simple. Rustic. and Handmade. I desire to create art, but art that can be used. Not simply to be looked at. While I do enjoy painting a peek of our farm life to hang on the wall, I’m smitten with the traditional crafts. Bookbinding. Candle making. Weaving. Just to name a few. It’s my way of fighting against my need for instant gratification. Against the use-it-once-and-throw-it-away mentality. It’s my way of fighting for passing along traditional handicrafts. For handmade to become mainstream. And for simply showing others life can be simple and beautiful at the same time.
